I borrowed from a payday lender in California many years ago – I don’t remember the date. Now I’m getting calls to repay. What should I do?
In California, the statute of limitations is four years. If your debt is older than that, the lender can’t sue you. The first thing that you should do is to ask them to send you a debt validation letter. This will provide details of the loan. Whatever you do, don’t admit that you owe them any money. It could be a good idea to consult a lawyer.
