My total debts stand at over $7,000. This figure includes $2,000 to Advance America in Kansas City, my credit card debt, and a personal loan. I want to file for bankruptcy. Can you tell me how to start?

If you are planning to file for bankruptcy in Kansas, first you have to determine whether you want to file under Chapter 7 or Chapter 13. If your income is lower than a specific threshold, a Chapter 7 bankruptcy is permitted. Otherwise, you need to opt for Chapter 13.

Visit the Kansas Bankruptcy Court website for more information.
